I’ve just gotten back from a few days in London for the 2009 FOWA, which was awesome. The very last session was “The Kevin and Gary Show” with the inimitable duo onstage. There was a live feed of all the #fowa tagged tweets going out written by the very cool Elliott Kember and all sorts of funny bits were flowing through. Hermione Way was there and tweeted out that she wanted somebody to ask her on a date.
Given the audience, you can imagine how that was received.
A few moments later Gary and Kevin had called her up on stage and were soliciting bachelors to basically do a geek speed round of “the bachelorette”. I got up there with two other guys, and Hermione asked us each a few questions. Whoever got the loudest audience applause at the end won the date. I got lucky: I was first in line to answer the questions. First mover advantage FTW! So, “age before beauty” worked in my favor this time.
That’s when the awesome happened.
Yes, that’s Addison Kowalski totally pwning me, live, on stage, Kanye style. It was amazing.
[Lest there be any doubts here: Addison designed WeFollow, which is of course one of Kevin's sites. The guy Addison is giving the props to is Jeff Hodsdon, who programmed the site, and I did the systems work for it. We are all buddies. This was really, really good fun and I love these guys.]
The moral of the story: come to FOWA if you can. God knows what might happen in Miami next year.
No comments thus farI’m heading off to London tomorrow for Carsonified‘s FOWA. I’ll be speaking twice at this one. The first is a workshop where I’m going to talk about emerging technologies that can be used to replace the things in the ubiquitous LAMP application stack. I’m also doing a shorter talk in the main sessions about how to usefully define the concepts of efficiency and scalability when managing the growth of your app.
If you’re going to be there for the event, please find me and say hello! Looking forward to meeting some new people and seeing what folks are interested in working on these days.
